Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge got a pacemaker on October 1 at M. S. Ramaiah Memorial Hospital in Bengaluru. Doctors said his condition is stable. He is likely to be discharged either on October 2 evening or October 3 morning.

The 84-year-old Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha was brought to the hospital on September 30 for a general health check-up following discomfort in breathing.
