Lawmakers from Delta North in Delta State and nine council chairpersons from the senatorial district have opposed the proposal to make the proposed Anioma State part of the South-east region.
In a statement jointly issued in Asaba and made available to journalists on Sunday, the group reaffirmed its push for Anioma State, but insisted that it must remain in the South-south region.
They contended that the South-south region reflected the peopleβs historical and administrative roots.
They also stated that extensive discussions informed their stance on the renewed national debates surrounding the creation of new states across the country.
