West African forces are being sent to Benin to help authorities manage a coup attempt, the regional group ECOWAS said Sunday.

Soldiers from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Ghana are being sent to "support the Government and the Republican Army of Benin to preserve constitutional order and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Benin", the bloc said in a statement.
