The US on Monday formally elevated illicit fentanyl to the category of a weapon of mass destruction after President Donald Trump signed an executive order to that effect.
"This poison has turned into a weapon," Trump said, arguing that fentanyl is being used by cartels and foreign networks to devastate American communities. "We are unleashing every available tool to stop it."
