President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday stressed the need for political unity as the PPP marked the 18th death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

Benazir was assassinated in a gun-and-bomb attack near Rawalpindi’s Liaquat Bagh on Dec 27, 2007 after a public gathering.

The Sindh government has announced a public holiday today to commemorate Benazir’s death anniversary. Foolproof security for the VVIPs, VIPs and general public has been ensured in Larkana as over 8,500 police officers and personnel, besides Rangers and other security agencies, have been deployed at and around Bhutto’s mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.

Several hundred thousand people coming from across the country are expected to attend the death anniversary programme in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, where President Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and many other senior party leaders are to pay homage to Benazir.
