The international community must recognise it is operating in a “changed world” in which “hard power” is increasingly being used to achieve national aims, a senior British government figure has said.
Pat McFadden, a cabinet minister close to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, said that America’s actions in Venezuela, seizing an oil tanker with UK help and its belligerent attitude to Greenland should be viewed as part of a new global reality.
“We are in a world now where the exercise of hard power is making a bigger impact on things,” he told the BBC.
