Coorg, officially known as Kodagu in Karnataka, is called the Coffee Capital of India because of its deep-rooted association with coffee cultivation.

Coffee was introduced to the region in the early 19th century during British rule, when European planters recognised Coorg’s cool climate, heavy rainfall and hilly terrain as ideal for coffee farming.
