The UK government has paid βsubstantialβ compensation to a Guantanamo Bay detainee who was tortured by the CIA and has been imprisoned without charge or trial for two decades, according to his legal team.
Abu Zubaydah, a Palestinian born in Saudi Arabia, was captured in Pakistan in 2002 and became the first person subjected to the CIAβs βenhanced interrogationβ techniques after the September 11 attacks in 2001.
