The Trump administration prefers a diplomatic rather than military resolution to ongoing tensions with Iran, US special βenvoy βSteve Witkoff has said.
This came as the White House claimed US pressure has led Tehran to halt the executions of 800 people detained during nationwide protests.
Speaking at the Israeli-American Council conference in Florida on Thursday, Mr Witkoff said he favoured diplomacy over military action. When asked if he thinks a US military strike against Iran is likely, Mr Witkoff said: βI hope thereβs a diplomatic resolution. I really do.β
The US special envoy said a diplomatic agreement with Iran would address its nuclear enrichment and inventory, missiles and proxies. He suggested Iran may be willing to compromise on these issues due to economic pressures.
