As far as cop thrillers go, The Rip checks a lot of familiar boxes. It's gritty, it's propulsive -- at least in theory -- and it clearly wants to position itself as a throwback to those older, morally murky crime dramas about corrupt cops and fractured loyalties.

On paper, this feels like a film that should work effortlessly, especially given its cast and premise. In execution, however, things are far less certain.

The story kicks off when a team of Miami police officers discovers millions of dollars in cash hidden inside a derelict stash house. What should be a routine seizure quickly turns into something far more dangerous. Once word begins to spread about the size of the haul, trust within the team starts to erode. Outside forces close in, internal suspicions mount and suddenly everything is up for question -- including who these cops can actually rely on.
