Former home secretary David Blunkett has become the most senior Labour party member to call for Iranβs Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to be banned by Britain under new terror-style powers.
Lord Blunkett, who served in Tony Blairβs government, said he backed the proscription of the IRGC, as well as the Muslim Brotherhood.
On Thursday, the Eβ U's foreign ministers βagreed to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organisation in response to Tehranβs deadly crackdown on anti-government protesters. The bloc's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said βrepression cannot go unansweredβ.
