Amid broadening conflict in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump has asked Australia to grant asylum to members of Iran’s national women’s football team, warning that the players could face grave danger if forced to return home after the tournament.
In a Truth Social post, Donald Trump said Australia would be making a "terrible humanitarian mistake by allowing the Iran National Woman’s Soccer team to be forced back to Iran, where they will most likely be killed." The team is currently in Australia for the Women’s Asian Cup tournament.
