Marrakech – Morocco’s Health and Social Protection Minister Amine Tahraoui announced a marked 22% decrease in HIV/AIDS infections over the past ten years during a World AIDS Day event in Rabat on Monday.
The minister also revealed that deaths from the disease, known locally by its French abbreviation SIDA, have been reduced by 55% during the same period.
These achievements result from collective commitment that has positioned Morocco as a recognized model in the MENA region, according to Tahraoui.
The kingdom has successfully reached two of the global objectives set for HIV/AIDS elimination: achieving a 95% rate of HIV-positive people under antiretroviral treatment and a 95% rate of treated patients with suppressed viral loads.
