The most horrifying story I have ever heard is that of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, who first lured all the rats out of the city by playing his magic pipe. The city authorities refused to pay him. After all, they said, all he had done was play a little tune. So the Piper played again. But this time he led away all the children. They disappeared forever. We can now see this tale unfolding before our eyes.
