Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth compromised the safety of U.S. troops by using his personal phone to share sensitive details about a planned military strike in Yemen, according to a Pentagon inspector general's report.

The report, made public on Thursday, also criticized the Defense Department's use of unauthorized messaging apps and devices.

Hegseth had the authority to declassify the material he shared with others in a Signal chat, the watchdog found.
