World Cup organisers Fifa have unveiled a new cut-price ticket category after a backlash by fans over pricing for the 2026 tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Football's global governing body said in a statement that it had created a limited number of βSupporter Entry Tierβ fixed at $60 for all 104 matches, including the final.
It said the plan was βdesigned to further support travelling fans following their national teams across the tournamentβ.
Fifa said that the $60 tickets would be reserved for fans of qualified teams and would make up 10 per cent of each national federation's allotment.
Federation's are guaranteed eight per cent of the tickets available for each World Cup match, with 10 per cent of that allocation being the new cheaper option.
For example, a federation represented in the final at the 82,500-capacity MetLife Stadium would be guaranteed 6,600 tickets for its own supporters with 660 of them costing $60.
Fan group Football Supporters Europe (FSE), which last week called prices βextortionateβ and βastronomicalβ, responded by saying the Fifa was offering too little.
