The law goes to President Tokayev next for signature.
On December 18, Kazakhstan’s Senate approved a law that most controversially bans the promotion of “nontraditional” sexual orientations, subjecting violators to fines and possible detention.
The draft law was approved by the Majilis, the parliament’s lower chamber, on November 12.
The Senate was originally scheduled to begin discussions on December 4, but removed the law from its agenda on December 3. Coincidentally, on December 3 Deputy Senate Speaker Zhakip Asanov and other members of parliament met with the European Union Ambassador to Kazakhstan Ale
