MILEI AND MERCOSUR
Addressing last weekendβs Mercosur summit in the Brazilian city of de Foz de IguazΓΊ just across the border, President Javier Milei affirmed that the regional trade bloc βneeds an institutional and integral reformβ while maintaining: βFlexibility is an asset, not a threat.β Accompanied by his Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, Milei reproached Mercosur for having βno common market, no free circulation and no macroecnomic coordinationβ while not being βsufficiently open to the worldβ but instead βan oversized and inefficient bureaucracy.β He further insisted: βIntegration must be at the service of free trade, not bureaucracy," describing the free-trade agreement with the European Union postponed until January after decades of negotiations as a missed opportunity.
