Thailand needs to address structural bottlenecks to improve its digital competitiveness, create innovation and fully leverage the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI).

The problems include low AI investment, a shortage of advanced skills and unfavourable regulatory frameworks.

For years, Thailand prided itself on being a "hyper-connected" society, with internet infrastructure and mobile penetration that rank among the global best.

However, as the landscape shifts towards AI and deep tech, Thailand faces a sobering reality.

According to the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2025, Thailand has slipped one spot to 38th place out of 69 economies, attributed to a slide in the country's technology ranking from 23rd to 29th.
