The nature of their job makes resilience a prerequisite for jump jockeys but Mark Walsh’s tenacity was underlined with a vengeance at Leopardstown on bank holiday Monday as he guided Fact To File to a superb success in the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup.

Just three weeks after owner JP McManus announced that Harry Cobden will be his retained jockey in Ireland and Britian next season, Walsh turned the Dublin Racing Festival into a giant Grade One billboard for the abilities that have made him the champion owner’s long-standing No 1 here.

Fact To File was the final leg of four Grade One victories in 24 hours for Walsh, all in McManus’s colours, and all for champion trainer Willie Mullins.
