What began as a holiday activity ended in a fight to survive at sea. The ocean turned dangerous, and a 13-year-old refused to give in. Austin Appelbee swam for nearly four hours through rough waters off Western Australia to raise the alarm after his mother and two younger siblings were swept out to sea.
“The waves are massive and I have no life jacket on,” Austin recalled on Tuesday.
