Pauline Hanson has claimed the alleged assassination of right-wing political pundit Charlie Kirk was a “wake up call” to Australians, while positioning herself as the promulgator of the global right.

Support for Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party overtook the Coalition in the latest Newspoll survey for the first time, after surging seven points over the past two months to a whopping 22 per cent of the primary vote.

Addressing the surge, Senator Hanson told reporters on Monday she had “been around long before Nigel Farage and long before (Donald) Trump”.

“So, therefore, I’ve set the record, my record, what I want,” she said.

“Don’t look at my speeches, what I’ve said in the past. I don’t back away from anything.
