Iran’s judiciary has denied sentencing protester Erfan Soltani to death, contradicting earlier reports from rights groups that the 26-year-old would become the first demonstrator executed during the current wave of unrest.
State media announced the denial as Soltani’s family claimed they had been informed his planned Wednesday execution was postponed. The clothing shop employee was arrested northwest of Tehran last Thursday following his participation in protests.

US President Donald Trump earlier claimed “very important sources” had assured him Iran had halted protester killings and would not proceed with planned executions. When questioned about potential military action, Trump said he would “watch it and see”.
Despite the judiciary’s statement regarding Soltani, the regime’s brutal suppression of demonstrations continues. Activists reported Wednesday that the death toll has climbed to at least 2,571 people, including 12 children.
