There is an image that has stayed with me since I first saw it years ago. Jackie Maribe, then facing a murder trial that had the entire nation watching, is being swarmed by cameras and journalists. But what arrests me is not her face. It is the figure beside herโher father, the late Mwangi Maribe, physically shielding her from the chaos, his body a barrier, his presence a fortress.
Mr Maribe passed away recently (God rest his soul), and last week, my former pastor, Sammy Wainaina, shared that image on LinkedIn with a reflection on what it means to be a present fatherโthe kind who shows up not for applause, but for the hard moments. His post stirred something in me.
